After spending our first six weeks in one of our partner’s basement discussing business strategy, we finally moved into our first real “home” in the heart of downtown Knoxville.
Formerly occupied by a part-time artist, this was no vanilla box: Original hardwood floors, white gallery walls, domed skylights and a second-story balcony overlooking Market Square served as a great context to be our first design project. With a budget close to a Home Depot credit card limit, we maximized our creative juices: Galvanized pipe and shop-vac tubes became adjustable desk legs, donated studs became desk walls and sheets of sealed plywood became our signature design element as wall caps.

It served us well until 2006 when the building was sold. Turning lemons into lemonade, we used it as an opportunity to grow both as a firm and as investors in our own future. See Studio Sweet Studio for the rest of the story.
