For Volunteer football fans, the Tennessee Gameday Center provides deluxe housing accommodations within walking distance of Neyland Stadium and downtown Knoxville. Located on the edge of the Maplehust (Knoxville’s only downtown neighborhood) between the Central Business District and the University of Tennessee, the proposed Tennessee Gameday Center offered thirty-five deluxe condominium units within walking distance of UT athletic events. All of the various-sized one and two bedroom units have views of Neyland Stadium, with some units providing spectacular vistas of downtown and the Tennessee River. Given the constraints of a narrow site, an existing railroad to the west, existing apartments to the east, and the need to maximize surface parking, the building has a relatively small footprint and rises eight stories above the ground. To remain in scale with surrounding structures, the building was sited on the lowest point of the site.
Utilizing brick and other materials consistent with existing Maplehurst structures, the building fit within the context of this well-known historic neighborhood. Additional amenities included are a club space on the lower level of the building which opens onto an exterior plaza facing the river, where residents can gather for tailgating and watch the Vol Navy and other pre-game activities happening along Neyland Drive. Pedestrian access from the site to Neyland Drive and across the railroad to the UT campus was also planned for the project.
