Delta Zeta’s national organization asked us to create the image for their newest residence as part of the new Morgan Hill Sorority Village on the campus of the University of Tennessee. Taking advantage of a low site, big program and end-row location, the design recalls the scale, material and detail of traditional Southern plantation homes, creating an identity unique to the typical greek campus. The signature exterior element is a grand entry porch with 6 Ionic columns representing the six original founders of the Delta Zeta sorority.

Designed to accommodate 40+ residents in single and double-bed suites, the 3-story house is organized in direct response to the site’s property constraints, existing vegetation and adjacent sorority. Public areas are located for maximum visibility outward, while private zones turn their focus inward towards the modern amenities. Included in the house is a dedicated room for chapter meetings, a 72-seat dining room which opens onto a side porch, full commercial kitchen, laundry facility, house-director’s suite, 2-story entry lobby, study lounges and a signature spa-like club bath on the 3rd floor (complete with skylit rotunda).

Scheduled for completion in 2011, Studio Four Design is working closely with DZ’s interior designer to ensure all architectural finishes and fixtures will blend seamlessly with the charm of the exterior, while also standing up to the rigors of dormitory life.
